RALPH JONES PHOTOSOver 100,000 people marched from Woodward and Forest to Hart Plaza in Downtown Detroit June 22 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Detroit March, originally held June 23, 1963.
Called Freedom Walk, the event was organized by the Detroit Branch NAACP and the UAW. Dr. King’s son Dr. Martin Luther King, III attended the event, as well as notables, Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and world-renown activist Dick Gregory.
