The Shed is ‘so Detroit’

http://youtu.be/Ji5vlB_vNI4 DETROIT - Entrepreneur Kwasi Akwamu is so Detroit he designed T-shirts  from a trending phrase on Facebook among Detroiters. Two days ago, Facebook users in the metro Detroit area (and those who used to live here) began posting phrases showing their community pride. "I am so Detroit...." flooded many users' news feeds as they reminisced about the good ole' days of Detroit. Akwamu and his apprentice, Tresvant Walker, 18, capitalized on the trend and designed "IAMSODETROIT" T-shirts. Walker told the Michigan citizen he is "so Detroit" he's like "Young Boys without the risk." Most Detroiters know the Young Boys Incorporated, a gang of young Detroiters for criminal activity, including dealing drugs.  But Akwamu, owner of the t-shirts, art and book store called The Shed of Martz Park, says it was also about the hustle. The drug game he says "put just as many people out of business as GM and Chrysler." "They're robbing, stealing cars, they're not even helping themselves. They really don't know how to hustle. They don't know how to go out and get it. I was taught when I was young a real hustler can go out and sell water to a whale or ice to an eskimo. But they don't have that go-getter mentality. They talk about it but if they had it they wouldn't be so angry and would be out trying to go make a dollar." Akwamu says his goal is to restore the hustle ethic. That's so Detroit.
