These would-be Detroiters are vying for 1,000 paid summer internships the mortgage company is offering for the second year in a row. Quicken representatives say applications are still being accepted as more arrive daily.
Forbes magazine named Quicken the fifth best place to work in America in 2014.
West-side Detroiter Adonis Jackson graduated from University of Michigan last year with a degree with a Bachelor’s in Administration. Looking for a job in IT he landed an internship with Quicken last summer. Instead of “gopher” duties, Jackson told the Michigan Citizen, “I did real work.” After working on mortgage platforms during his internship with Quicken, he was offered and accepted a job with the loan company.
In addition to the quality real-world job experience and pay, Quicken’s offices have “slushee machines on every floor,” arcade games and ping pong tables that appeal to the young hires, say representatives. The company also offers tours of the city and cultural institutions for the interns.
“Coming straight out of college,” Jackson was concerned about his future until he got the job at Quicken. Now, he says, he is excited about his professional future and in finding ways he can help the company continue to benefit the community.
