New class starts March 18
DETROIT — There are immediate openings in a machinist training class that starts on March 18 at Focus: HOPE. The class is part of Focus: HOPE’s workforce training programs that provide job training and assistance finding employment.
Focus: HOPE is offering a 12-week class that teaches students how to read a blueprint, shop theory, math, communications, manual use of lathes and mills, and two types of CNC machining. It is open to residents of Wayne County.
Classes are offered at no charge to qualified students. To be admitted, students must have a high school diploma or GED, take an admission test to determine their math and reading levels, and pass a drug screen.
The classes are offered in partnership with SEMCA (Southeast Michigan Community Alliance). Currently, classes are offered on Focus: HOPE’s campus in Detroit. To start the admissions process, call 313.494.4300 or stop in the Machinist Training Institute, 1200 Oakman Blvd., Detroit anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Focus: HOPE has been offering workforce training programs since 1981 as part of its mission to overcome racism, poverty and injustice. Nearly 12,000 individuals have graduated from the programs. Even with the challenging economy, the organization’s job placement rate ranges around 70 percent. Graduates of classes are eligible for lifetime job placement assistance.
