DETROIT - “The charter is very badly drafted,” mayoral candidate Mike Duggan said today at a press conference announcing he’s not backing out of the 2013 mayor’s race.
Duggan held the conference at his headquarters following yesterday’s ruling by Wayne County Circuit Judge Lita M. Popke’s decision, ordering him off the August primary ballot.
Duggan announced he’s filed an appeal to Judge Popke’s ruling. He expects the court will hear the case by next week.
When presented with the language of the charter Popke called “clear” and “unambiguous,” Duggan said the language is badly written.
“If we take the language as it’s written exactly and not interpret it, then I’m the only one who’s lived in the city for a year.”
