Bass Day Detroit 2014 will feature performances from many of the city’s notable bass players, representing Detroit’s great legacy of jazz, funk, soul, rock and R&B bass players, including Nate Watts, Bobby Vega, Brad Russell, Ralphe Armstrong, Lamont Johnson, Emily Rogers, Brandon Rose and Lonnie Motley. The event commemorates the late Yvonne C. Butler who helped found Detroit Bass Day, and Don Davis, the pioneering music producer who passed in June.
A photograph of all the Detroit Bass Day 2014 participants will be taken in front of the USSS building, the studio frequently used by funk pioneers Parliament-Funkadelic during their most prolific recording era. Organizers expecting it to be the largest gathering of bass players ever photographed. Last year, the photograph was taken in front of the Motown Museum, with over 100 bass players showing up with their instruments to be a part of Detroit music history.
Tickets are $25 for general admission, $35 for VIP. All tickets will include a tour of the USSS studio. Raffles will be held throughout the day featuring items contributed by the event’s sponsors, with bass guitar equipment and accessories as prizes. The Bass Day afterparty will be held at Bert’s Warehouse in Eastern Market at 8 p.m., featuring a live jam session sure to bring out many celebrated Detroit musicians.
