Black Slate hosts forum on civic engagement

The Black Slate will host an open meeting May 1. The meeting will focus on volunteerism and civil/social/community action. According to a press statement, Black Slate friends, supporters, volunteers and the community is invited. The meeting will feature representatives from the Michigan Democratic Party, National Action Network, NAACP, UCC/DMA-Social Justice M.A.T., Detroit Young Dems  among others.

The program, entitled: “Finding our next Barack Obama(s): Civil/Social/Community Activists,” will focus on volunteerism and civil/social/community action including contacting your Precinct Delegate (PD) — or becoming one, upcoming meetings and elections, setting up an ongoing calendar of community activities, events and meetings, staying connected, and making our presence felt across all social media, etc..

The meeting will be held at the BCN National Training Center, 700 Seward near Third Ave. in Detroit.

The Black Slate’s City Council and Board of Police Commission candidates’ forum, initially scheduled for April 1, has been postponed until June 5. Stay tuned for additional  information about this event.
