Mary Mary Keith Sweat , members of BlackstreetCOURTESY PHOTOS[/caption] Local students from the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences Choir will be in the spotlight June 21 when they open for 90s R&B hitmakers Blackstreet featuring Teddy Riley and Dave Hollister at the 8th Annual GM River Days festival. The three-day festival, which takes place on the RiverWalk from the William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor to the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority Terminal & Dock, just past the Renaissance Center June 20-22, benefits the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy. The Conservancy leads the development of Detroit River front into publicly accessible space. An ample and diverse line-up of national and local talent will bring spectators to the riverfront where festival goers will be greeted with all kinds of additional arts and entertainment vehicles including Typhoon Tommy’s jet ski stuntmen, art displays, food vendors, carnival rides, and activities for young people. Youth-oriented features include “Arts and Scraps,” magicians, a 50-ton sand sculpture, Michigan DNR-curated wildlife exhibitions. The festival’s musical headliners are: Steppenwolf (June 20), Blackstreet (June 21), Mary Mary (June 22), and Keith Sweat (June 22). The festival is open to people of all ages. Admission costs $3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and $5 from 5-11 p.m. (10 p.m. on June 22). Admission is free before 5 p.m. on June 20.
