UAW-Ford revitalizes East English Village park

ford uaw‘Opening Day Ceremony’ to include community leaders and Detroit Tigers On June 14 during what is being called an “Opening Day Ceremony,” UAW-Ford will announce details of its contribution toward the restoration of Balduck Park. So far, UAW-Ford has donated nearly $2 million to help provide bleachers, an updated scoreboard, beautiful landscaping and brand new restrooms for the park located in Detroit’s East English Village neighborhood. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Police Chief James Craig, former and current MLB players Willie Horton, Austin Jackson, Rajai Davis, Torii Hunter and the Detroit Tigers Team Mascot are all expected to attend. The event begins with a parade at 9:30 a.m. and will last until 12:30 p.m. The park is located at the corner of Chandler Park Drive and Canyon Street. James Settles, UAW vice president, National Ford Department, says investing in youth is key to a better Detroit and brighter future. “UAW-Ford believes in giving back to the communities in which we work,” said Settles. “On behalf of UAW-Ford, we feel it is important for our youth to have clean, safe, well-organized and well-supervised sporting activities in their communities.” Settles says the UAW-Ford is pleased nearly 1,000 Detroit-area youth will enjoy Balduck Park now and in the future.”
