Anti-EM forces shut down center city

[new_royalslider id="41"] Staff report Protesters against Emergency Management shut down Jefferson and Woodward in the heart of the city May Day, which went largely unreported by corporate media, television and print. Police swooped in to disperse the group when they stepped off the curb at Hart Plaza and blocked Jefferson. With a crowd of 400, there were too many demonstrators for the police to handle. From that point on the police accompanied the crowd as they marched up Woodward, through Chase bank, to the federal building and on to Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr’s hotel, the Book Cadillac. From there they marched to the Pingree statue in Grand Circus Park and rallied before retiring to Central United  Methodist church across the street at Woodward and Adams. At the Book Cadillac, marchers filled the lobby bringing hotel staff on the run and a minor scuffle occurred when the hotel manager attempted to grab the group’s microphone. The city had denied the group a permit to rally in Hart Plaza, organizers said.
