Clement “Fame” Brown, a Detroit entrepreneur who has been designing and selling clothes since he was 12, uses his experience to help others become creative professionals. Philadelphia college student, youth advocate and social entrepreneur Rashaun Williams educates high school students on environmental sustainability. Computer scientist Emmanuel Cephas of Baltimore has developed software to teach youth math through physical activity.
In addition to inspiring their communities, these three men are all recipients of the BMe Leadership Award. BMe is an organization dedicated to recognizing the positive impacts Black men make in their communities. Selected BMe leaders are awarded $10,000 to fund the work they do in Detroit, Baltimore and Philadelphia.
BMe is accepting applications and nominations for possible 2014 Detroit BMe leaders now until April 21. The organization is asking the public if they know a “positive Black male in … Detroit ... who is deeply committed to improving his community, has a compelling story, inspires others, and is a leader amongst his peers” to share this 2014 BMe Leadership Award application link with him.
