Helen Moore leads members of the Education Task Force April 3, at a fundraiser for State Representative Harvey Santana to protest his vote for statewide expansion of the Education Achievement Authority.
Santana and St. Rep. John Olumba gave the Republican majority the two votes necessary to pass the measure. Without the aid of these two, the measure would have failed in the House.
The EAA is Gov. Rick Snyder's failed school experiment, currently for,15 Detroit schools. WSU Education Associate Professor Tom Pedroni released a report in March revealing some students who were proficient upon entering the EAA have fallen behind and are no longer testing proficient in math and reading. One-fourth of students enrolled in EAA last year left the system.
Republicans have rewarded Olumba for his vote by naming him chair of a fiscal oversight sub- committee. Santana reportedly received a swimming pool for Rouge Park.
