[new_royalslider id="17"] DETROIT — For a second year, “Detroit's Red Carpet Backyard BBQ” will serve hot cuisine and give away groceries to an anticipated 10,000 homeless and low-income hungry Detroiters on Nov. 17.  The event, created by entrepreneur, author and real estate specialist Robert Shumake, is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local service groups Coalition On Temporary Shelter, Transforming Life Group and Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries partnered with CARICOM Caucus of Caribbean Ambassadors,  Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce, Abayomi Community Development Corporation,   UAW FORD, Senator Bert Johnson, Geometry Foundation, ChefToney Private Catering, Radio One, Rolling Out to make the massive event happen. Celebrity Chef Toney, known from his many appearances on the Food Network, will lead the culinary team to ensure the food is not only fresh and hot, it is also delicious, organizers say. The Backyard BBQ will also feature a DJ and live entertainment, promotional give-a-ways,  fresh local produce participants can not only take home, but can be eaten without any preparation,  transportation and complimentary vision,  blood pressure, height, and weight screenings provided by Project Healthy Living. The BBQ will take place at Bert's Marketplace Complex in Detroit's Eastern Market at 2739 Russell Street.  Local volunteers are still needed.
